Confidante Privacy Policy

Last Modified: July 2025

At Confidante, we believe privacy is an act of care.

You're trusting us with deeply personal moments—reflections, emotions, and questions that deserve tenderness and protection. We're here to honor that trust. We built Confidante with empathy at its core, and that extends to how we handle your data.

With care,
Ariel & Tara

🛡️ Your Privacy, By Design

Privacy is part of our product DNA. From our architecture to our coaching prompts, every decision is reviewed through the lens of safety, consent, and user dignity. We partner with legal, engineering, and wellbeing experts to ensure we're building responsibly for mothers.

📖 Why This Policy Exists

This policy explains:

  • What information we collect (and what we don’t)

  • How we use, store, and protect that information

  • What choices and rights you have

  • How third-party services (like AI APIs) fit in

It applies to your use of the Confidante app—including web and mobile versions—and any interactions or communications related to the app. It does not apply to offline interactions or third-party platforms we link to.

💬 What We Collect

Information You Share Voluntarily

When using Confidante, you may share:

  • Your name, email, or profile preferences

  • Personal reflections or journaling submitted through chat

  • Form inputs or values-based choices

  • Feedback, survey responses, or messages to our team

These inputs help personalize your experience and improve our emotional support tools.

✨ Reminder: Confidante is not a medical tool or therapist. Your messages are for emotional exploration, not clinical evaluation.

Information We Collect Automatically

We may collect:

  • Device and usage data (e.g., browser type, IP address, session duration)

  • Log and diagnostic information (e.g., errors, feature use)

  • Optional location data (only if enabled)

This helps us understand how Confidante is working and where we can improve.

🧠 AI Partners & How We Use Them

Confidante uses OpenAI (and may in the future use Anthropic or similar providers) to power select chat features. When you message our AI chat, we may securely transmit de-identified or anonymized inputs to these APIs so they can generate a response.

We do not send your full name or email address to AI partners.

We only work with API partners who:

  • Respect user privacy

  • Allow enterprise-grade controls

  • Are aligned with our values of maternal safety and dignity

You can view OpenAI’s privacy practices here: https://openai.com/privacy

🔄 How We Use Your Data

We may use your information to:

  • Deliver personalized responses and reflections

  • Improve our AI safety and quality

  • Understand trends (e.g., what topics mothers are exploring)

  • Provide customer support

  • Fulfill any legal or contractual obligations

We may use de-identified data for research, analytics, or model fine-tuning—always in a way that cannot be traced back to you.

We do not sell your data. Ever.

🧰 Tools We Use (Third Parties)

To operate Confidante, we use trusted infrastructure partners, including:

  • OpenAI (AI generation)

  • Auth0 (user auth)

  • MongoDB (database)

  • Slack (optional community)

  • Contentful/Formful (content delivery & forms)

  • Stripe (payment processing)

These services are bound by confidentiality and security obligations consistent with industry standards.

🔐 How We Protect Your Info

We use modern security protocols including:

  • Encrypted transmission (HTTPS)

  • Secure database storage

  • Role-based access control

  • Activity logging for audit

While no system is infallible, we regularly review and improve our security measures to help protect your data.

You’re responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials. If you suspect unauthorized access, please contact us immediately.

🗂️ Data Retention

We retain your data:

  • As long as your account is active

  • Or as needed to comply with legal obligations

  • Or until you ask us to delete it

You can request deletion at any time (see "Your Rights").

👩‍⚖️ Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights under laws like GDPR or CCPA, including:

  • Accessing your data

  • Requesting correction or deletion

  • Withdrawing consent

  • Opting out of certain types of processing

To exercise any of these rights, email info@confidantemoms.com. We’ll respond within 30 days.

🧒 Children Under 18

Confidante is not intended for children under 18. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a child has provided us with information, contact us and we will promptly delete it.

✉️ Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy as we grow. When we do, we’ll:

  • Post the updated version here

  • Update the “Last Modified” date

  • Notify you via email or in-app if the changes are significant

Your continued use of Confidante after updates means you accept the revised policy.
